Marion's Journey is an interview-based narrative experience, educational applied game about Marion Camrass, a Holocaust and Gulag survivor.

  • The game was developed by Chimera Tales in collaboration with The Gathering the Voices Association.

  • Full development, Game Design, Art

Originally, Marion’s Journey had been a game jam game developed by university students with the help of Gathering the Voices who later approached us to port the game to web browsers. Our collaboration ended up the full artistic and game design rework of the original experience while we kept the main structure of it.

  • 2023 - Scottish Game Awards - Creativity category winner

By inking an empty piece of paper, players explore a hidden map to find key visual elements in order to unlock a story fragment told by the narrator, Marion Camrass.

Gathering the testimonies of Holocaust survivors and making them accessible in an educational framework for younger generations is becoming more and more crucial as we are getting further away from WWII in time. In light of how current generations consume media and information in general, and how the medium of video games is in constant evolution, creating accessible educational experiences in the language of that medium is an ongoing, never-ending experiment. For us, redeveloping an educational game around Marion Camrass' testimony is not only a single project about a story of a survivor but a contribution to that experiment. Hopefully, it is going to be an interactive experience that stands on its own, but also something we or other developers can learn from in order to create more and more accessible and meaningful projects about one of the most tragic events in human history."
